Mahasweta Devi straddled the Indian literary scene like a colossus for close to half a century from 1974 when her Hazaar Churashir Maa appeared to the year she died. About The Author

Mahasweta Devi is recognized as one of the foremost writers in India. She received numerous literary awards, including the Sahitya Akademi Award (1979) and the Jnanpith Award (1996), for her incisive, powerful, and satirical writings. She was also honored with the Padma Shri Award (1980) for her efforts on behalf of displaced tribal communities. Her eight most powerful stories—“Choli Ke Peeche,” “Palatalli,” “Draupadi,” “Rudali,” “Uppu,” “Deyyalunnayi Jagratha,” “Chinnollu,” and “Sri Sri Ganesha Mahima”—are included in this collection.
